Swamp to sexy in 5 minutes
Only requires 2 ingredients
When’s the last time you really cleaned your piece? Chances are, you’re thinking, “uhhhh…” while trying not to imagine what’s inside your pipe.
Now I know it seems like a smelly, messy task that you can’t even smoke during, but it’s worth it! Whether it’s a pipe, bubbler, bong, oil rig, vape hose, or otherwise- It will hit smoother and more effectively when clean. There’s always resin involved, and it always builds up into an airway-clogging problem.
The good news is it’s super quick and easy to get your glass back to its previous glory.
What you need:
Alcohol and salt
You’ll need a working limb to shake the piece around I guess, but if you can shake it vigorously you’ll have a clean piece in 5 minutes. I was always told to soak glass overnight in the alcohol, but I don’t think it’s worth it. I tested it recently by only leaving some of my pieces in overnight, and they required maybe a few seconds of shaking less. Not only that, I couldn’t use any of them for the night.
Put some alcohol and salt in your piece, cover any opening (don’t forget the carb!) and get to shaking. Alcohol evaporates clean and salt is a great abrasive, but be very conscious of where the salt is rubbing. Just shaking it the same way over and over will only clean one spot. Once it looks pretty good and the alcohol looks really disgusting dump it out and rinse under warm water. Done!
You can definitely make this more complicated if you’d like. For instance, I blow air and water through the piece until big chunks stop coming out (especially percolators etc…) I prefer Kosher salt because it’s thicker and seems to hold shape longer, and I also use cotton swabs sometimes to wipe off the side walls in my bowls and downstems. You can spend money too if you’d like. I’m not ashamed to admit that I wear lilac-colored cleaning gloves to keep the smell off my hands and wrists as well.
There are also other options I’ve heard of such as Grime Off, Oxyclean, Epsom salt, and boiling water. I can’t vouch for any of those (yet…) because salt and alcohol works fine and I always have it in the house.
A clean piece is a clean hit.
